I spent several years working in the health care field and desperately needed a change. I took off a few months for some R&R and to ponder my next move. Hmm....I thought. What do I love to do? Answer: shop. I LOVE shopping. After a particularly stressful stretch at the hospital I'd go browsing and would instantaneously decompress. It could be in a boutique or CVS, it didn't matter - I could get lost reading the ingredients on a label of Theraflu.
My shopping mentor was my Dad. When we were kids he always took us browsing from Haymarket to Zayre's. He always had to squeeze the fruits or touch the fabric on every garment he passed. Frequently he'd look at the hem to see how well it was stitched. From him I learned to love wonderful fabric, stitching and design. And so I opened Zia 11 years ago.
Last April I moved to Brookline, doubling my space. I buy for women 30+ with an emphasis on wearable but really interesting design that isn't mainstream, in sizes XS to XXL and in a broad price range. I buy from small manufacturers from Iceland to Brooklyn to LA. And of course... wonderful fabrics.
