
In 1997 at the age of 24, I began weekly Pilates lessons. I was intrigued by claims of its efficiency, only twice a week and one stays in great shape. As an artist Painter, fresh out of Bard College, I happily opened my mind to a workout promising the toning results of dance class in a fraction of the time. Must be some sort of seminal body conditioning method! I implemented it as a healthy adjunct to my weekly cardio and thought nothing more. Just showed up twice a week.
Then the magic happened. After a month, I no longer had shin splints. What a bonus. I guess my shin splints didn’t have to go with running. Another time, my mentor advised me to do my hour long Pilates workout prior to dance class. I did, and was not sore the next day. Guess that my “following day fatigue” didn’t have to go with dance class either.
Presently, I am the owner of Smartbody Movement, a beautiful boutique Pilates, Gyrotonic, and Yoga studio in Brookline Village. Also the only equipped Gyrotonic studio in town. Instructors here have over 10 years of expertise. We have 600 hour certifications and ongoing studies with internationally recognized Teachers/Founders under our belts.
