Celebrating our 75th Anniversary!
In 1988, a group of concerned citizens camped out in front of the theater to prevent it from being developed into a shopping mall. Since then, this non-profit community film and arts center has continued to grow.
The mission of the Coolidge is to educate, enlighten and entertain. The many changes at the Coolidge in recent years have greatly altered the perception of the theatre in the eyes of the community. The Coolidge has, in fact, experienced nothing short of a renaissance, transforming from an experimental arts venue to a stable and highly valued institution in the community. The cultural programs and services that we present vary widely and are designed to appeal to and engage the diverse communities living in Boston. Sample programming includes:
* Showcasing independent, locally produced work by emerging filmmakers
* Discounted admission series for seniors and new parents (Senior Wednesday Matinees and Box Office Babies)
* The deaf and hard of hearing film series
* Off the Couch film talk program with the Boston Psychoanalytic Society
* Film/video festivals (The Boston Jewish Film Festival, Croatian Film Series, Goethe Institute, Latino Film Fest, Boston International Independent Film Festival)
* Divas in the Dark - Opera film program
* Kids Variety Shows with live entertaining performers
