Flowers and plants have always brought me delight. I remember, as a child, being blown away by a sea of Blue Bonnets waving in the early Texas spring. I was creating bouquets when I ran a marketing communications business during the years when my children were young. Flower arranging began as a favor to friends.
So did event-planning. I joined the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital to help organize a stress resiliency program for kids, and later I worked as PTO president for the Carroll School, which serves children with dyslexia. I still somehow found the time to organize events for people and causes I loved.
I am still making my way to the flower market while serving as a Gallery Instructor at the Museum of Fine Arts and in my capacity as a staff artist at Medicine Wheel Productions in South Boston. There, I teach young people in recovery from heroin addiction.
In my mind, all these experiences fit together in a wonderful way. Everything I have done has been about engaging with an organization or an individual in a way that enlivens both of us. Living is a mysterious journey, full of joy, beauty, passion... and sorrow. When we are awake to this our spirit blooms. We are truly alive.
Wakefulness is what I bring to the events I organize and the flower arrangements I create. I find what is special and soulful in each occasion and express that in my creations.
